Sam starts school — and discovers that two sounds he already knows can work together as a team.
Sam wakes up early. Sunlight spills through the window. Today is different — today Sam starts school.
He packs his little acorn backpack and checks it twice. Pencils? Check. Notebook? Check. All 26 letter cards from the Alphabet Adventure? Check.
“I know every letter,” Sam whispers proudly, flipping through them. “S says /sss/. A says /aaa/. T says /t/.”
But on the walk to school, Sam spots a big red sign: STOP.
He tries to sound it out. “/s/ ... /t/ ... /o/ ... /p/.” He frowns. “Wait. The /s/ and the /t/ are right next to each other. There’s no vowel between them!”
Sam stares at the sign. “I know /s/ and I know /t/. But how do I read them when they’re stuck together like that?”
His tail twitches with curiosity. “I bet school will teach me.”
